To Tile or Not To Tile?

You live an active lifestyle. You have pets and children. You entertain.  Your home is where the heart is and you use it to its fullest. Will it  scratch or will it dent if Auntie Bee wears her high heels? You want a worry free home, right?

Then you want a hard surface tile. Whether it is a glazed porcelain, a through body porcelain, or a glazed ceramic tile, scratching and denting are not a concern.  How do you decide which tile is the right one? You need to find out what the tile ratings are. Look for glazed hardness levels of Class 3-5 – residential to heavy commercial. The hardness level you choose depends on the room in the house and how much traffic it gets and what kind of use it receives.  Class 3 is for residential interiors with normal use and foot traffic (interior bathrooms/bedrooms). Class 4 encompasses all residential interiors and light to medium commercial (kitchens, laundry).  And, Class 5 is all residential and most commercial (anywhere inside the home).

Most other hard surface floor products – Luxury Vinyl Tile, Luxury Vinyl Plank, Resilient Vinyl flooring, hardwood either natural or engineered – are subject to scratching, tearing, and/or denting in a normal residential environment, unless you are living cautiously and following all the requirements listed in the limited warranty.

So – if you want worry free – you want TILE.
